The Oversocket® is a combination of an overshot and a keylow socket that

offers the strength of an overshot and the wide catch range of a keylow

socket.

Applications

A pair of keys running longitudinally and parallel to the angled bore are

designed to only retain a slip in the body of the tool at the proper

alignment, but not to sustain any stress from pulling on a fish. A set of slips

ranging from a concave maximum-catch slip to a convex minimum-catch

slip are designed to ride in angled bore retained by the keys. The backside

of the slip has the same radius as the angled bore so the back of the slip is

fully supported against the angled bore as the slip ride up and down the

bore. Teeth are cut on the front side of the slip where they can engage the

fish as the fish is pinched between the slip and the opposite side of the

straight bore. The slip teeth are cut as a left-hand buttress thread form

permitting the tool to be backed-off an engaged fish by turning the tool to

the right. A set of five slips give the standard 4 11/16" - tool a complete

catch range from a 5/8" - sucker rod to a 3 1/8" tubing collar. Each slip has

a one-half inch catch range, except the 2 5/16" O.D. tool catches in 1/4"

and 1/8" inch range.

Features & Advantages

A complete tool is equipped with a top sub, body, slip, a guide bushing, and

bottom guide. Guides are available with either a cut lip or mill type bottom.

The guide bushing is key-locked to the body and guides the fish into the offcenter

bore in the body of the tool. The bushing are available in a variety of

designs to control the size of the opening and permit dressing with kutrite to

mill the fish to a specified size. The Oversocket can be run with an overshot

extension or with washpipe. The Oversocket can also be run in conjunction

with an overshot with the overshot dressed to catch tubing and the

Oversocket dressed to catch rods. A bowl may be modified for short catch.
